Welcome to the first installment of “By The Numbers”. This will be a weekly article where I present data, numbers, and statistics for a few match-ups of the current NFL week. This will be more of a data driven article to present the numbers up front instead of trying to sway you on one side or another.
I will end all articles with a spotlight highlighting specific players/teams of my favorite match-up of the week.
Here we go!
IND Colts (5-4) vs JAX Jaguars (4-5)
This is the first meeting of 2019 between these two division rivals. IND comes into the game as -3.5 favorite with an over/under point total of 44.5. Both teams are very much still in the playoff hunt and this can easily be labeled a must win game for both teams given the tight AFC playoff race.
IND comes in with several injuries on the offensive side, most notably, TY Hilton. While JAX gets back their coveted off-season addition – Nick Foles, who has not played since Week 1. If you are familiar with Nick Foles then you know what he is capable of doing for teams who are desperate for a spark.
HOU Texans (6-3) vs BAL Ravens (7-2)
This is one is going to be fun. A match-up of division leaders and MVP candidates, this could very much become the next biggest QB rivalry. BAL comes in at a favorite at -4 , rightfully so. This is where things get fun – BAL comes in boasting the #1 rush offense overall while HOU brings a top 3 rush defense.
HOU just lost their best defensive piece JJ Watt and that will lead to some trouble against the #1 rush offense and the future face of the NFL, Action Jackson. Get ready for a shootout.

NE Patriots (8-1) vs PHI Eagles (5-4)
Rematch of SuperBowl LII – Tom Brady and Bill are licking their chops at revenge. NE comes in at -3.5 favorites on the road vs an injury riddled PHI team. 2 great story lines here – can NE get avenge their SuperBowl loss; and can Wentz prove that he also can beat NE.
Up to now NE has been carried by their #1 ranked defense and I wouldn’t be surprised to the see the same this week. PHI just lost its 2 top WRs, lost their top RB and their defense has not been the same.
