By The Numbers: NBA Week 5

We’re just about one month into the young NBA season. We now have four weeks of data and a bigger sample size to really start digging into teams and their identity.

In the NBA version of “By The Numbers” we will focus on power rankings and a team/player spotlight for the week.

Power Rankings: Top

(1) Lakers 11-2
Coming into the season, we all knew that the Lake Show would be among the top scoring teams with Lebron, AD and Kuzma. What has surprised us thus far is the high level of defense that they are playing at. They had the #1 ranked defense in the league this past week allowing an amazing 97.3 PPG. They currently are tied for 1st for the best defense in the league with 100PPG in the season. With Kuzma coming back from injury and Lebron cheating father time there is no doubt they will continue performing as a top team the rest of the season.

(2) Celtics (10-2)
Lakers and Celtics ranked #1 and #2 – just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. No surprise they are #2, they just had their 10 game win streak snapped vs the Kings by a near miss at the buzzer. Boston is ranked in the top 10 for both their Offense (10th) and their Defense (7th).

(3) Bucks (9-3)
Giannis is averaging over 30 PPG, 14 rebs, 6 asst, 1 stl, 1 blk. No need to say more.

(4) Rockets (10-3)
Yes, they are tied for 1st with the best offense in the league (118 PPG – but their defense ranks 22nd allowing 114PPG. Not completely sold on the Harden/Westbrook project, yet, as it is hard to keep up this kind of offensive efficiency season long.

(5) Jazz (8-4)
Utah comes in at #5 primarily carried by their Defense (1st – 100PPG and Donovan Mitchell.

Week 5 Spotlight

Paul George and the Clippers:
Clippers have been very successful on the floor with Paul George on the sideline due to injury He made his much awaited return this week and picked up where he left off last season – scoring 70 points in 44 mins of play.

Kawhi and PG13 on the court together is one scary thought.

Moment of the Week

The King, Lebron James, with the dunk of the year of so far. Who and What is father time?
